Re: [computer-go] formal division rules

In message <200507100334.j6A3Y8un004845@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Don Dailey <drd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> writes

No-one has entered a GNU Go for either division yet. I happen to have a
build of GNU Go 3.6. I shall enter it for the Formal division. If a
spokesman for GNU Go asks me to withdraw it, or if anyone else enters
another GNU Go, I shall withdraw it.

Nick,

I want to see GnuGo entered in both events too, but shouldn't you
actually get their consent before entering them in the FORMAL
division?

You documentation for the formal division, under "Permission of
copyright-holders" says this:

"Its operator must have the consent of the authors of all the
  copyright code which it contains."

So why don't you enter them in the OPEN division and get their
permission if you want them in the formal division?

I assume that you would like it if we respected the rules you set up.
Please don't set things up so that we can't do this.
Don, you are right.

The main purpose of my mailing was to provoke a response from the GNU Go authors. However it is more important to obey the rules. I shall enter gnugo3pt6 for the Open division only, and withdraw it if asked.

Nick
