[computer-go] Go library and other projects
It's been a while since I made my Go library available through
SourceForge. I haven't really kept an eye on it and I assumed I would
receive mail in case someone had questions or problems. Since
SourceForge didn't update the activity data for quite a while I thought
this project had disappeared into oblivion. When I recently checked the
site again for the first time in a long time, it turned out there had
been quite some activity after all. I don't know if 250+ downloads this
year indicates there are actually that many people working on
computer-Go, but at least I never expected so many to be interested
enough to download something you can't actually play or run. Maybe
someone can shed some light on what that would actually mean in terms of
real computer-Go activity?
Occasionally I still doodle a bit with the stuff I have, but I never
have enough time to do something serious. I wouldn't mind adding some
bits to my Go library, but without any feed-back it's hard to know what
are the kind of things people would like to see added or improved. The
following things are what I've been thinking of and playing with recently:
- Update the Go library to take advantage of the new possibilities of
Java 5. Still a lot to do, potentially.
- New additions to the library. I still have plenty of interesting stuff
that would add to a computer-Go framework.
- I have Goliath running on an EJB server. I could polish up and
publish a simple sample client to demonstrate how to access it. I
imagine this could be useful to people who'd like to do testing against
it. I can also see plenty of other uses for it... If there's any
interest in this, let me know.
- Porting to J2ME turned out trivial, so I also have Goliath running on
a mobile phone. Plays plenty fast too. Not sure yet where I could take
this, could be something cool.
So if anyone has suggestions where I could direct the scarce hours I
have to spend on computer-Go, let me know.
