In case of a tournament with a high percentage of new,
just for fun participants the tournament system can use
a just for fun format, too, something like:
"
XY style scoring of rules R
K komi
pairing system depends on number of participants
flexible time but reasonably fast play
If the programs cannot determine the result, then this may be
done by arbitration.
sportsmanship
plagiarism is punished heavily
own PC's are allowed
"
So if you expect most programs in such a just for fun event
to support Japanese scoring, then set XY=Japanese and be
prepared to have some responsibility in case of trouble-
makers, which are scarce since it is a just for fun event.
The above worked well for last year's European Championship
with its small prizes and "many" newcomers. It would not
work for a tournament with a lot of prize money or fame at
stake. I guess that the US Championship can also still be
run as above.
