But only because you knew already what he wanted to say ...
One important "detail" was missing: "... that has captured a single stone"

One might argue about the difficulty to apply the rule but

 "No position may ever repeat" 

is simpler and easier to understand than:

 "You may not immediately recapture a single stone that has captured
  a single stone"
