[computer-go] question about Gnugo

How good is Gnugo 3.4 on a 5x5? It seems to me that it's pretty much
unbeatable as black but just throws the towel as white. 
Does Gnugo has a winning strategy as black? 

Is Gnugo a "worthy opponent" as white on a 5x5 for machine learning
program?
