I am the principial author.

The humans were too weak. The games were already very loopsided. One reason
was, that they took the games not very serious. Did no preparation. Or to
say it more directly: They were just there to cash in money.
GM Topalov did then at least his best to defend his "honour". GM Ponomariov
and the boy Karjakin just played their games.
But another reason is: The top programms and especially Hydra are simply
stronger. We (and also Frans Morsch) knew this beforehand. Playing with the
notebook was therefore a very clever marketing strategy for Fritz. The next
step is playing on a mobile.

Mathias Feist of Fritz said: 3.5 out of 4.0 is difficult to beat.
The current version played 8 games against strong GMs and made 6 wins, 2
draws additionally it won 5.5 to 2.5 against Shredder. The Elo-score of this
games would be around 2950.
I think it is difficult to come over 3000, because if someone plays 1.d4 and
plays only for a draw, it is difficult to win with black. Especially against
humans we have to find more active openings.
In the Topalov game the reason for the lucky draw was: We were out of book
after the 2nd move and Hydra made some serious positional mistakes in the
opening/early middlegame phase. Topalov said afterwards, that he would have
certainly won the game against any other human. One can not give an opponent
more "gifts" than we did in this game. But if even this is not sufficient
for them to win with white, one has to think about handicaps.
For Fritz there was also some "surprise" moment. Fritz is for most players
the best known "chessplayer". The new version 9 plays different (I assume
also somewhat better). Topalov was e.g. completly shocked, that Fritz plays
now different.
>Btw, what's the Hydra price? A nice T-Short? ;)
Hydra has like "Mona Lisa" no price.
