Yahoo (was Re: [computer-go] Asian software)

I'd like to argue against this, for the following reasons:

1) Yahoo has a bad record on giving addresses to spammers.
2) Ads, ads, ads.
3) If you view messages through the web interface, attachments don't show up anyway.
4) Mailman, which this list is currently using, has most of the features you want, including an archive. Have a look here:

Alli,

I would like to second this suggestion to use a Yahoo!Groups account.

I am in 6 YGs, have been for over 3 years on several and I think they work great. Every now and
then, the group can take more than a couple of minutes to distribute a posted message. However,
when that starts happening (maybe once very 2-3 months for around a day), I just go to the
web-based interface which is immediate (perhaps it is just mail-servers being sluggish).

Benefits:
- uses email directly to my Inbox.
- Allows me to turn off email and just view message through web GUI (which I might use during a
language war storm just to reduce the noise).
- Allows me to see the other registered users
- Aloows me to post files easily to allow other members to easily retrieve them
- Web GUI is very polished and works Yahoo! well.

Anyway, several of the groups I am in both use the message forum as well as the files section. I
cannot speak for the other features (which could be quite useful).

Another possibility would be to use Yahoo Groups. You lose the "computer-go"
domain name, but there are many advantages, because there is a file section
you can post documents, links, photos, etc and it also has a calendar people
can update the latest tourneys dates.

They also archive messages, so easy to go back on the web and search
for something you might have missed.

A perhaps simpler solution is to use Gmane (<http://www.gmane.org/)

I'd be happy to fill out the form unless someone has some strong
objection.
It appears it is already there:
