You do not have to use the web based, the web based is only used if you choose
to, In the groups I am subscribed I get emails to my original email
via my regular
outlook express or mozilla thunderbird email client, I can choose on
the group site
if I want to receive email in html, plain text or even digest mode.

Many spammers use the .jp . kr domains to send unwanted email, that's why
many blockets automatically block .jp/.kr domains by default.
