[computer-go] Re: Chess programs vs. Go programs

Comparing Chess programs with Go programs, especially in the
domain of speed of evaluation, is not very useful. Chess is
fundamentally easier. The quality that matters (checkmate)
is trivial to detect, and there are trivial measurements (counting
the wood) with greate predictive power. Go is about as far from
that as I can imagine. Almost all of the effort in Go programming
has been, and will continue to be, developing proxies for measurements
that are trivial in chess.
