Now you say that i again remember it vaguely.

I already wondered why those go programs have so much problems when i start
differently.

Having black i usually start in the bottom, in the center of course.
surely the programs know about the symmetries of the square. playing in the middle is perhaps what is confusing them. iirc, my teacher (mr. yang) has observed that the programs do not do well if you make unusual attaching (contact) moves.
