i believe so. btw aren't you in irvine? if so, you should at least come and observe this year. sensei (mr. yang) plays a professional for $1k on igs and then comments on the game.

oops, that's another $1k i forgot to mention in a previous post replying to bob meyer.

I definitely get the idea Go players are less stressed out about
things and not into the Las Vegas mentality.
that's been my experience, but only have met a few chess players.

For getting people to be willing to play computers, it's still
probably the case that money, even if a little bit, will help a lot.
if it does not happen very often, i think a $25-$50 could be done and that should do the trick. it might have a side effect of making it easier to do the pairings (no clue).
