What makes sense to me as a computer Go programmer is to insist that the author or their approved agent be there...
that may be hard. maybe mf and smart go authors would allow a representative to keep an eye on things. they seem robust enough to stand up to it.

regarding program vs progran\m, would the authors be upset if we did a computer to computer match with out them and just announced the results? it could be very unofficial. mf and smartgo are robust enough that i don't think there would be a problem with them. i don't have any of the others. (btw, i;m and *old* programmer, but no ai or game experience).

If you have something like this over the summer I will do my very best to be there with SlugGo and hopefully the referee code and a referee PC.
that would be great! not sure when the tourny is yet. last year was sept 18-19: http://www.thelec.com/go.pdf

I think that this sounds wonderful.
great. david f. has indicated that he is interested. maybe smart go's author would allow me to use my copy. this does not have to be official. i could just be sold as just an experiment or something. and with a small number of programs, we could play then off against each other more exhaustively than is normal. (let'em play all night sometimes, giving them lot's of time?)

thanks
