Of course W is alive. But saying B is dead is confusing. B is merely capturable, just like a stone in a snapback. This position may simply not be ready for scoring, in which case it cannot be used to judge a scoring system good or bad. But to get back to the issue: You claim that this position shows the undesirability of play-out rules.
