25 years ago, I read a paper describing GO as problem of real functions of
the complex plane. I don't know the author, but the gist was like this:
points with a black stone were positive singularities; with a white stone,
negative singularities. Best play for black maximizes the total energy of
the board; for white, minimizes the energy. Haven't heard anything like
this since then.

Does anyone like to comment on the relations of Go as a mathematical subject
to various relavent mathematical branches (such as topology, combinatorial,
game theory, etc)? And give a summary of the works has been done so far?
