You probably refer to an article "Computer and GO" by Manfred Wimmer.
The paper appeared in: DIE TREPPE, Österreichische GO Zeitung, Heft 17,
page 8, in 1971 (in German).
Among other items chapter 5.1 with heading "Theorie der Einflußsphären"
describes influence, which "radiates" from stones [similar to gravity
which "radiates" from masses].
Interestingly he guessed - at that time ! - that, if applied what is
described, will probably give a 2..3 Kyu computer GO playing program.
