[computer-go] ICGA report
Hello,
I read a few excellent contributions to the icga journal volume 27 number
3, september 2004.
I have 2 questions. First one a simple one. In the 9x9 tournament i see
goking having ended as last. Is it correct that this is the program from
j-c Yan. The ignorant reader like me would guess that johan, nearly all of
his products are called 'king' in some way as his last name 'De Koning'
means 'the king', that there is a small confusion.
On the other hand it is hard to imagine for me Johan to be losing from any
type of program written by the very sympathique computerchess author J.
Hamlen. Yet that would be so sensational that i cannot wait to hear whether
my doubts are on true grounds.
Secondly, I see a very nice written report by David Fotland who shows
clearly that go programs still are strugling to search basic tactics.
Not counting forced moves how many ply is the mistake seen from brute force
perspective when using a reasonable evaluation function?
My last question is: Why did so little of the 9x9 programs join the 19x19
competition?
Especially magog i would like to see what it is worth at 19x19, GoKing i
can imagine what strength it would be.
Vincent
