I have 2 questions. First one a simple one. In the 9x9 tournament i see goking having ended as last. Is it correct that this is the program from j-c Yan. The ignorant reader like me would guess that johan, nearly all of his products are called 'king' in some way as his last name 'De Koning' means 'the king', that there is a small confusion.
No mistake, Johan's Go program is called 'Atarist'.
Partially this is a search thing, you chess guys should understand ;-)My last question is: Why did so little of the 9x9 programs join the 19x19 competition?
We originally designed Magog especially for the 9x9 board. The 2002 version was very fast but inefficient for boards larger than 10x10. In 2003 I completely rewrote the representation, so this is no longer an issue. However, without retraining the networks and adjusting various other components, the 2004 version of Magog would most likely have played quite poorly on the 19x19 board (it was too center-oriented).Especially magog i would like to see what it is worth at 19x19, GoKing i can imagine what strength it would be.
